Celebrating the City's Immigrant Communities
One Saturday, November 10, 7:30 p.m. (this performance will still take place)
October 30: (cancelled) Sue Elliot, the project director of the Houston Grand Opera, and representatives of the various immigrant communities will take us through the process of discovering the people who are depicted in the oratorio. November 6: (cancelled) Anthony Freud, the general director of the Houston Grand Opera, who was inspired in this commission by a woman who walked to Houston from El Salvador, will moderate a discussion with the librettist, Leah Lax, and the composer, Christopher Theofanidis. November 10: The Refuge: A Song of Houston will be presented in the Brown Theater of the Wortham Center by the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, Chorus, and Children’s Chorus. Subscribers will have the option of attending a performance and may purchase from a special block of tickets being held by the HGO.
