Baudelaire and Chopin at Home
Sarah Rothenberg, pianist and artistic director of Da Camera, will explore the kindred spirit evidenced in the works of these two daring geniuses. She will discuss what Baudelaire meant when he wrote of “correspondences” between different art forms, and how this relates to poetry and music. Close readings of poems and art criticism by Baudelaire will be linked to performance and discussion of selected piano works by Chopin. Rothenberg recently received the Medal of Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters from the French government. A frequent performer at New York's Lincoln Center as well as in leading European cities, she is making her solo debuts in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and Brussels' Palais des Beaux-Arts this year.
