Collecting Rare Books
We will learn about collecting rare books from three perspectives: the rare book dealer, the institution, and the private collector. With experts, we will study rare books and discover what constitutes value.
NOVEMBER 8
Detering Book Gallery, 2311 Bissonnet
Herman Detering, who has owned Detering Book Gallery for twenty-five years, will share with us his experience as a collector and buyer of old books. He will give an overview of standards and values any collector should know.
NOVEMBER 15
Special Collections, University of Houston
Pat Bozeman, head of Special Collections and Archives, University of Houston, and Margaret Culbertson, architecture and art librarian, will discuss and tell the stories about some of the identifiable books held in the Special Collections, including the books from John Staub's library.
NOVEMBER 29
Private Collection
A collector of old books will talk about his varied collection. We will view the collection in his home.
