Melissa F. Kean is Rice University’s Centennial Historian and the author of Desegregating Private Higher Education in the South: Duke, Emory, Rice, Tulane, and Vanderbilt (Louisiana State University Press, 2008). Ms. Kean holds a Ph.D. in history from Rice. (Fall 2012)
