Join Ben Jones, Vice President, Conservation and Education to learn more about the Zoo’s conservation efforts followed by a tour of many of the species they support.
The Houston Zoo is proud to support 33 wildlife conservation projects in 17 countries around the world. The Zoo provides training, technical, and financial support to its global community-based wildlife conservation partners that are committed to educating and strengthening local communities, conducting research, and reducing threats to save animals from extinction. The programs range from supporting giant anteaters and tapirs in the Pantanal to giraffes in Kenya to orangutans in Borneo.
The Houston Zoo is dedicated to supporting those programs which build local capacity, support local people and protect animals and their habitat across these regions. Their program partners strive to create sustainable solutions which improve livelihoods, whether it be food, water and health security, educational opportunities, or skills training which in turn builds a foundation for supporting wildlife populations.
