By far the oldest major city in Texas, San Antonio is steeped in history. Our storied neighbor to the west, which celebrated its tri-centennial in 2018, is the second-largest city in Texas and the most visited city in the state.

And yet, how well do we know San Antonio? During our 4-day tour, we will be joined by local visionaries and experts as we explore the art, preservation, architecture and green space of this vibrant city.

Itinerary Overview

Thursday, 10 February
We will depart Houston via motorcoach at 10:30 am (boxed lunches) and check into The Canopy Hotel. Highlights include a welcome reception at ArtPace, private home tour and dinner.

Friday, 11 February
We will travel the Mission Trail and the “Mission Reach” expansion. We will return to downtown for an in-depth look at the Hemisfair Park redevelopment and Alamo Plaza. In the afternoon we will have a private tour of the Spanish Colonial galleries in the San Antonio Museum of Art and return to our hotel via a boat ride on the Rio. The evening will be quite festive: first stop, a primo Fiesta Parade viewing apartment followed by a fun and informative presentation on the history of Fiesta at the Maverick Carter House.

Saturday, 12 February
The morning will be dedicated to San Antonio’s art scene, perhaps the most consistently interesting community of working artists in the state. We will visit artists’ studios, Ruby City, and Blue Star Complex. In the afternoon we will learn about the history and development plans of The Pearl with time for independent exploration. A driving tour of the Monte Vista neighborhood will include a private reception before our day concludes at San Antonio Botanical Gardens for tour and dinner.

Sunday, 13 February
After checkout, we will visit an often-overlooked part of San Antonio and learn about the Westside Preservation Alliance of the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center. Then, a quick stop at the beloved Sloan/Hall before concluding our day at The McNay. We will return to Houston by 5:00 in the afternoon.
